  • I believe it is important for Family Life Educators (FLE) to have knowledge about Covid-19 in order to protect the families they are working with. FLE's may work with children, adults, and the elderly and it is important to know the risks associated with each age group for developing Covid-19 and take precautions to minimize spreading the virus while helping and supporting families in need.

INTRODUCTION TO UNCONSCIOUS BIAS

  • I always feel as though I am marginalized because of bias when it comes to car maintenance. My dad knows a lot about cars and has taught me a lot of what he knows, but when I bring my car for regular maintenance or a problem I sometimes feel brushed aside or unheard. It is my perception that because I am young and a women, that people often think I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to my car. 

  • One way I can minimize the impact of unconscious bias for families I may work with is by being aware of my own unconscious biases. In my line of work, I may work with families of all different races, religions, and sexual orientations. I must be aware of my own unconscious biases working with families from multiple backgrounds in order to support them to the best of my ability without offending them unconsciously and delay the positive progress I hope to make within their family.

  • I can use the information learned from fundraising essentials to strengthen my professional opportunities when it comes to figuring out ways to support and fund the mission and progress for nonprofit organizations or other organizations that relate to families that I may become involved with over the course of my career as a family life educator.

Grant Seeking Essentials

  • I can use the information I learned from grant seeking essentials to strengthen my professional opportunities by using this knowledge and applying it to a situation in my career in which the organization I work for or with or I myself would need to apply for a grant. Working as a family life educator I may become associated with organizations that support children and families and need a grant to fund the organization and help meet certain goals. Using what I learned I could help out an organization when applying for a grant.
