1.5- Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
It has come to my attention that some people believe all family professionals are the same, which is untrue. There are multiple dimensions to careers dealing with family life. One way to better understand these dimensions is by looking at the three domains of family practice, which include Family Life Education, Family Therapy, and Family Case Management. Each domain has a specific reason for existing. Family Life Education involves Family Life Educators who establish the knowledge and skills needed to mold healthy families. Family Therapy is the domain where families seek guidance in how to function as a family, and fixing bonds within the family. Family Case Management entails assisting families in finding resources to help them, and satisfy the legal requirements and policy systems regarding families. This only includes the basic purposes of each domain. Family Therapists diagnose and amend family problems. Family Life Educators assess a family's needs and use a system best suited to enhance the family's functioning. Family Case Managers help at risk families fulfill societal and legal regulations required of them. Each domain works together in assuring the well-being of families in need through different approaches best fit to help specific familial challenges. I hope this letter alters the minds of those who believe that all family professionals are the same.
Each song depicts struggles within a family including child abuse, domestic abuse, verbal abuse, and the effects of divorce on family members. Each singer uses their personal experiences to convey a variety of family struggles in their song. I think each song includes familial problems that could have changed the outcomes had Family Life Education been a part of improving the functioning of these families.
